If you've been searching for pottery classes in Scotland, you've probably come across a long list of options — city centre studios, one-off workshop days, big group sessions booked through activity sites. There's nothing wrong with any of that, but if you're after something a little different, it's worth knowing what a small, independent studio can offer that the bigger names often can't.

A Personal, Unrushed Introduction to the Wheel

At my studio in Bowling, just outside Glasgow, lessons are kept small and hands-on. There's no rush to move you through a fixed script — if you're struggling to centre your clay, we stay with it until it clicks. If you're flying through the basics, we build on that. Every session flexes around the person in front of me, which is something that's hard to offer at scale.

Real Feedback, Real Time on the Wheel

A lot of pottery classes across Scotland are built around watching a demonstration, then having a short go yourself. My sessions are built the other way round — you're on the wheel for the majority of the time, with guidance as you go, so you leave having actually made something rather than just watched it being made.

A Path Beyond the Taster Session

Plenty of people try a taster class, enjoy it, and then find there's nowhere obvious to go next. That's part of why I also offer studio space hire alongside lessons — so if you catch the bug, you have somewhere to keep practising on a real pottery wheel, rather than starting from scratch each time you book a class elsewhere.

Worth the Trip from Glasgow

Bowling sits just a few miles west of Glasgow, an easy drive out of the city, with the added bonus of leaving the noise and pace of town behind for a couple of hours. Many of the people who come through the studio are from Glasgow itself, looking for something a bit removed from the usual city centre workshop circuit.
